How to Get More Greens In Your Diet

Updated: Dec 4, 2024

Let's talk about the benefits of adding leafy greens to your diet and how to do it in a way that fits into your life.

From kale and spinach to arugula and chard, leafy greens pack a punch for essential nutrients like vitamins A, C,  K, and folate, and minerals like iron, calcium, and magnesium.

These nutrients come along with incredible health benefits like boosted immunity, heart health, glowing skin, and weight management!

Since leafy greens are full of antioxidants and phytonutrients they work to strengthen your immune system, making you that much more resilient when cold and flu season comes around and contribute to a healthy, radiant appearance.

The fiber and potassium in leafy greens work wonders for your heart,  helping to reduce blood pressure and lower your risk of cardiovascular disease.

Like many other whole foods, leafy greens have a low-calorie and high-fiber makeup, making them perfect for weight management. Bulk up the volume of your meals to keep yourself full and satisfied without excess calories.

4 Simple Ways to Add More Greens To Your Diet

Smoothies and Shakes: Add a handful of spinach or kale to a smoothie with some fruits like banana, strawberry, mango, and/or plant protein for an added boost.

Salads: Up your salads by mixing in different leafy greens like arugula, romaine, and mixed baby greens. Get creative and add toppings like nuts, seeds, apple slices, avocado, roasted garbanzo beans, or tofu for a well-balanced meal.

Stir-Fry: Add some greens you might typically overlook to your lunch or dinner stir-fry. Chopped kale, Swiss chard, or bok choy would complement this well.

Wraps: Add some fillings like spinach, sprouts, carrots, onion, avocado, and hummus to a wrap; or swap out tortillas for blanched collard greens and pack them full of classic burrito fillings.

Incorporating more leafy greens doesn't need to be complicated or overwhelming. With some creativity and an open mind to where swaps or add-ins can be made, you can enjoy all of the benefits these foods have to offer.Take it one day, one leafy green at a time; and remember that it's about progress, not perfection.
